Southold Historical Society Offers 2021 Bainbridge Internship Deadline

for applications May 15, 2021

The Board of Trustees of the Southold Historical Society is pleased to again offer the Bainbridge Internship Program for the year 2021. This internship is a terrific opportunity for a local student to gain a hands-on understanding of the many operations that help Southold Historical Society preserve and share Southold’s history for our community and future generations.

The internship requires the completion of 100 hours of service to the Society and is accompanied by a $1,500 stipend. Potential candidates must be a sophomore through senior, living in Southold Town. The application and other details are posted on the society’s website under the “Get Involved” tab or can be requested by calling 631.765.5500.

The society has been welcoming interns for years, including some who went on for degrees in History, Anthropology, Law, as well as others who work in the non-profit sector. The last Bainbridge Intern was Nick Vicinanza from 2019. He had the following to say about his experience, “My time as the BainBridge intern at SHS was an amazing experience. Not only did it help prepare me for my future in college, but it provided me with an outlet to learn about the history of my hometown (which I love). I gained leadership skills and knowledge that I would not have learned at a regular summer job. I spent the summer doing activities ranging from event setup, archiving projects, weekend tours, and exhibit setup. I was able to make personal connections with the volunteers, and the employees of the society, and I look forward to being able to come back to Southold and visit SHS in the near future.”

The internship itself honors late Southold Historical Society supporter, Mildred Bainbridge. The Society keeps the internship going to honor Mildred and also to help local students understand the importance of local history while gaining hands-on experience in a non-profit setting.
