Southold Historical Society’s

Cheers to 60 Years Raffle is Underway

—– thru August 31, 2020 —–

Southold Historical Society is pleased to announce the “Cheers to 60 Years” Raffle. The raffle which takes place from now through August 31 offers prizes for all different tastes.

Founded in 1960, Southold Historical Society was set to celebrate its 60th anniversary with a “Cheers to 60 Years” Gala this summer. But when the large fundraiser event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers quickly put their heads together to create a “Cheers to 60 Years” Raffle.

Society Executive Director, Deanna Witte-Walker states, “Museums have been reinventing the way they ‘do business’ these days. Southold History Social is no different. In addition to learning how to offer virtual exhibits and virtual events, our volunteers have been able to offer alternate fundraisers. This raffle is a great example of how they have switched gears and were able to come up with something to appeal to everyone.”

The raffle offers a choice of one of the following prizes:

  •   5 night stay at a gorgeous, beach community home in Mattituck (off-season) – valued at$1425
  •   Canoe – Mad River Canoe Adventure 14, older model – valued at $600
  •   Painting of a Dock Scene by Caroline M. Bell, local impressionist artist – valued at $750
  •   $600 Cash
  •   “Surf Scoter” Decoy carved by the late Ronald G. Dietrich – valued at $500

Caroline M. Bell (1874-1970) was one of the “most recognized artists and teachers working in Southold from the 1920s through the 1960s.” She had a home and studio in Mattituck for much of her adult life where she painted, mostly outdoors. She along with a number other noted artists often met to paint together. Her impressionistic style, while mostly self-taught, is widely-acclaimed.

More information and photos of the prize choices can be found on the Society’s website: The drawing of prizes will take place on September 13 and winners will be contacted. Those interested in purchasing raffle tickets should call 631.765.5500 or email
