DISCOVER SOUTHOLD SCAVENGER HUNT!

NOW A TWO DAY EVENT! LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By request, Southold Historical Society has added a day to the Discover Southold Scavenger Hunt! The hunt will still begin on Saturday, April 17 at 10am but will not close until Sunday, April 18 at 4pm. The Society has made this change in order to accommodate families with busy schedules on Saturdays. Hopefully this will allow more people to take advantage of this opportunity to participate.
——————
Southold Historical Society is pleased to offer an exciting family event this spring, the “Discover Southold Scavenger Hunt.” Join in the fun on Saturday, April 17, 2021 through Sunday, April 18, 2021.
——————
Fun for all ages, the only requirement is a smart phone to download the Goose Chase app. Most targets are within walking distance from each other, centered around the hamlet area. Participants will be asked to take a selfie with Albert Einstein or count how many windows are on the Thomas Moore House. This a creative way to get your friends and family outdoors and moving all while learning about the history of Southold.
The first, second and third place teams including names and photos will also be announced on our website, as well as on Facebook and Instagram! Get prepared to hunt for Southold’s treasures!
VIRTUAL SILENT AUCTION
PREVIEW STARTS TODAY!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Redecorating your home? Looking for a distinctive gift for someone special? Are you long overdue for some self-indulgence? Check out the treasures and treats at Southold Historical Society’s Silent Auction.
——————
The online auction will begin on Saturday, May 1, 2021 and run through May 15, 2021. With a variety of high quality items to bid on, lots will include something for everyone in a range of values. Opening bids will begin low to encourage lively bidding and widespread support of Southold Historical Society. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the history museum.
——————
The auction committee has been busy gathering significant donations such as a painting by noted local artist, Madeline Brasserear, prints by S. Neil Fujita and Rich Fiedler, a one-of-a-kind squash blossom necklace, and an autographed postcard and written musical musing of Edwin Fischer. For the wine lovers, there is a VIP tasting and tour of Pellegrini Vineyards. Lots such as a collection of three culinary herb pots or combination of local restaurant gift certificates are perfect for either those who love to cook and for those who love to dine out!

COLLECTIONS CORNER:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below is a photograph of two artists, William Ritschel (1864-1949) and Orlando Rouland, A.N. A. (1871-1945). In the summer of 1899, they decided that it would be a novel adventure to live on the wreck of the barge Escort. The wreck was just west of Goldsmith Inlet on the shores of the Long Island Sound in Peconic. Even though the wreck was tilted over on one side, the artists still managed to live and paint on it, as well as host local artists for social gatherings.
