57 Years of Funk & Soul
For over five decades, Tower of Power has been a powerhouse in funk and soul music, evolving from their early days as The Motowns into a genre-defining band known for their signature “Oakland soul” sound. Founded by Emilio Castillo and joined by baritone saxophonist “Doc” Kupka in 1968, the band broke through with their album East Bay Grease and found mainstream success with hits like “You’re Still A Young Man,” “What Is Hip?,” and “So Very Hard to Go.” Their dynamic horn-driven sound not only captivated audiences but also led them to collaborate with icons like Otis Redding, Elton John, and Santana. Celebrating their 50th anniversary with a triumphant return to Oakland and the release of 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater, Tower of Power continues to energize fans worldwide with their enduring passion and infectious grooves.
