Conservation Opportunity in Mattituck

birds on deep hole creek
At the headwaters of Great Peconic Bay on New Suffolk Avenue and Deep Hole Creek in Mattituck, the owners of a 15 acre property are in the process of finalizing a 7-lot subdivision with the Town of Southold. This is the last parcel of undeveloped property on the creek. The good news is that the owners are willing to consider a conservation option for this property. But time is limited, and we need your help!

The Trust is working with a group of neighbors, seeking support for a purchase of the property for conservation and permanent protection. During the next 6-8 weeks, we’ll begin raising funds (as pledges) from our community toward the acquisition. This is important to demonstrate a level of commitment to the project.
We’re staying engaged with the owner on this time sensitive opportunity, while reaching out for your help. If successful, this property will be protected from future development, and Mattituck will forever benefit:
  • Scenic view shed protected
  • Bucolic community character maintained
  • Water quality of the creek and bay strengthened
