We thank conchologist Marion Krepcio for donating several trays of local seashells she has collected across her lifetime. If you didn’t know, Marion is responsible for getting the awesome Oyster designated as Connecticut’s state shellfish!
————
Marion’s selection, above, illustrates some of the shell diversity we already have lost at our beaches. The collection soon will be on view at the Custom House.

In his January 6 speech, President Biden referred to the muse Clio, a sculpture of whom is above the door in Statuary Hall at the US Capitol. As shown in the painting below, Clio often is depicted recording the facts of history.

The Muses were a group of nine nymphs in Greek mythology. Daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the sisters were particularly revered by poets and musicians, who believed that each of the nine Muses inspired a different art form. These writers hailed Clio as the muse of history, who inspired poems, plays, songs, and other works rooted in the past.
