Forward Forward

December may be a month of celebrations and reflection…. for some, it’s an opportunity to squeeze in those final continuing ed. credits.  Big shout out to our partners  Sea-Dar Construction and Twin Forks Window Company for hosting our Procrastinator’s Delight earlier this month.

And thank you to all of our presenters.  Attendees enjoyed friendly hospitality and networking, as well as delicious food, and an opportunity to earn up to six credits!

We have a lot to celebrate and reflect upon at AIA Peconic.  Read on for a message from 2023 President Lori Beppu, as well as reminders about Allied Member dues and information about our 2024 Design Awards.

May your 2024 be filled with peace, joy, and interesting architectural projects!

Maria Fumai Dietrich

Executive Director
AIA Peconic

Message from 2023 President

Dear Esteemed members of AIA Peconic,
As the year winds down, I’m pleased to reflect on our journey through 2023, which has been marked by remarkable growth and accomplishments.
Memorable highlights from this year’s events include the thought-provoking Gray Matters film screening and panel discussion at the Southampton Arts Center in March, the Residential New York Stretch Code Presentation in April at the Southampton Stony Brook campus, the Women in Architecture Speed Mentoring happy hour in June, the Montauk Walking Tour in September, our Annual Golf & Dinner Fundraiser in September, and the engaging Regional Planning Panel Discussion last month.
Our annual 2023 Design Awards celebration included the introduction of two new awards honoring Sustainability and contributions to our Community.  We received a high number of design submissions that were reviewed by a world-class jury.
As a board, we conducted a strategic planning exercise that crystallized our focus on education, community engagement, and diversity—values that are the heartbeat of our organization.
As we consider the year and its many facets, I’m happy to share this AIA Peconic Index for 2023, a snapshot of our growth:

  • Number of 2023 AIA Design Award recipients:  12
  • Number of golfers at our 18th Annual Golf & Dinner Fundraiser:  128 (This was a record-breaker)
  • Percentage increase, year over year, in golfers: 36

  • Total value of scholarships awarded to local architecture students:  $12,500
  • Number of scholarships awarded:  5

As we embrace the future, AIA Peconic continues to express a commitment to sustainability, historic preservation, and diversity, equity, and inclusion within our membership and amongst our greater community.
With my tenure as President coming to a close, I extend my gratitude to Executive Director Maria Fumai Dietrich for the unflagging energy that she infused into our organization over the year and to our dynamic Board of Directors for their diligence and support.  I’m excited to pass the baton to Edgar Papazian, our 2024 President, and am confident in his vision for AIA Peconic.

Here’s to a new year filled with inspiration!
