|
National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $30,000 to Art Omi to support Art Omi: Artists international residency program. The Art Works category is the NEA’s largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.
————————————-
The Art Works grant will support Art Omi: Artists, which take place on the 300-acre campus located in Ghent, NY. The program invites 30 artists from around the world, representing a wide diversity of artistic styles and practices, to gather in rural New York for four weeks each summer to experiment, collaborate and share ideas. Concentrated time for creative work is balanced with the stimulation of cultural exchange and critical appraisal. The Art Omi: Artists program nurtures deep creative and professional connections in a vibrant, social residency.
————————————-
Since 1992, Art Omi has hosted over one-thousand artists through its various residency programs, providing them with a uniquely supportive opportunity in which to develop their works and practices. Additionally, artists-in-residence at Art Omi engage with public audiences through a series of open events, thereby enriching the local and regional communities through access to high-quality contemporary arts and literature.
————————————-
Art OmiArt Omi is a not-for-profit arts organization with residency programs for international artists, writers, translators, musicians, architects and dancers. Art Omi believes that exposure to internationally diverse creative voices fosters tolerance and respect, raises awareness, inspires innovation, and ignites change. By forming community with creative expression as its common denominator, Omi creates a sanctuary for the artistic community and the public to affirm the transformative quality of art.
