AVRAM ART GALLERY REOPENS AT STONY BROOK SOUTHAMPTON

GHISLAINE AND LANDO FREMAUX-VALDEZ IN FIRST EXHIBIT

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SOUTHAMPTON — The Avram Gallery at Stony Brook Southampton will host Lovefeast, an exhibition by Ghislaine and Lando Fremaux-Valdez, from June 21 through August 04, 2024. The exhibition begins a four- part contemporary art series produced by the Pollock-Krasner House for the Avram Gallery.
“The Avram Gallery provides us with a great space to showcase exciting early and mid-career artists,” says Matthew Ward, Director of the Pollock-Krasner House, “By activating the gallery and bringing these artists to Southampton, I feel that we can invigorate the campus.”
Lovefeast will feature grand-scale pastel and mixed media works by the Lubbock, Texas-based duo. This powerful series of self portraits examines embodiment through the triple lens of medicine, religious mythology, and the artists’ relationship with one another as both collaborators and spouses.
“Our work is, in many ways, private. It concerns the interior of our bodies, our relationship, our home,” says Ghislaine Fremaux-Valdez, the current Director of the Texas Tech University School of Art, “The Pollock- Krasner House is a private place too. Through the artists’ personal effects, the symbols of their shared life, we are reached by them. It is through exposure to the deeply personal dimensions of someone else that we find commonality – that we recognize ourselves in higher definition than ever.”
A special installation by Fremaux-Valdez will be installed at the Pollock-Krasner House concurrently to their exhibition at the Avram Gallery.
A public reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday, June 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Avram Gallery.
