East End Arts Council is pleased to present The Art of Communication: Technical and Conceptual Explorations in Printmaking, opening Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Andy Tarshis Fine Art Gallery in Riverhead. Curated by Lorena Salcedo-Watson and Glynis Berry, the exhibition explores the diverse ways printmaking communicates ideas through imagery, materials, technique, and the distinctive qualities of the printed image.
The public is invited to celebrate the opening at a reception on Saturday, October 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Andy Tarshis Fine Art Gallery, located at 48 W. Main Street in Riverhead, NY. Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday, 12–5 p.m., and Sunday, 12–4 p.m.
Bringing together a range of technical and conceptual approaches, The Art of Communication considers how artists use printmaking to express ideas, challenge perceptions, and create connections with viewers. The medium offers a remarkable range of possibilities, from the unique qualities of a carved or etched matrix to the variations that emerge through printing. Each artist’s approach shapes not only the image itself, but also how it is experienced and interpreted.
Printmaking is both a technical practice and a means of artistic expression. The choices artists make in their materials, processes, and imagery become integral to the meaning of their work. Through the interplay of technique and concept, the works in this exhibition demonstrate how a print can move in unexpected directions, conveying ideas through both its subject matter and the physical qualities of its making.
“With Lorena Salcedo-Watson, a master printmaker and professor at Stony Brook University, expertly guiding the selection, I am excited by the depth of expression and range of technique exhibited by the artists in the show,” says curator Glynis Berry.
The opening will take place in tandem with The Print Continuum, a national juried printmaking exhibition featuring more than 75 artists at East End Arts Council’s 11 West Gallery, just steps away at 11 W. Main Street.Together, the exhibitions offer visitors two complementary perspectives on contemporary printmaking: one exploring the range of artistic voices and practices represented in a juried exhibition, and the other examining the relationship between printmaking techniques and the ideas they communicate.
Both exhibitions will remain on view through December 13, 2026. Admission is free and open to the public.

East End Arts Council is pleased to present The Print Continuum, a national juried exhibition celebrating the rich traditions, creative possibilities, and continued evolution of contemporary printmaking. Opening Saturday, October 24, 2026, the exhibition brings together more than 75 artists exploring the medium through traditional techniques, innovative processes, and experimental approaches.
Featuring work selected by jurors Ellen Wiener and Bill Albertini and curated by Mich Miller, Head of Printmaking and Galleries at East End Arts Council, The Print Continuum highlights the breadth of contemporary printmaking and the many ways artists continue to push its boundaries. From woodcut and linocut to etching, lithography, screen printing, monotype, collagraph, and more, the exhibition celebrates the craftsmanship, experimentation, and individual perspectives that make printmaking such a dynamic art form.
At the heart of the exhibition is the idea of a continuum: a connection between established printmaking traditions and new directions in contemporary art. The works demonstrate how artists build upon historical processes while finding new ways to explore image, material, texture, and meaning.
The exhibition will recognize outstanding work with three cash awards: $1,000 for First Prize, $500 for Second Prize, and $250 for Third Prize.
