a Two-Artist Exhibition Opening in September

East End Arts & Humanities Council (EEAC) is proud to showcase the works of artists Bill Albertini and Ellen Wiener together in a new exhibition at the Andy Tarshis Fine Art Gallery from September 12 through October 10, 2026.
At first glance, few would think to pair the work of Ellen Wiener and Bill Albertini. Yet beneath their markedly different practices lies a shared intellectual curiosity and an expansive vision of the natural world.
Welcome to Metafloric.
This exhibition brings together two artists whose works are informed by nature, science, myth, fantasy, and the passage of time. Albertini employs digital technologies to invent forms; Wiener shapes hers through meticulous handwork. Despite these differences in process, both transform the overlooked, the microscopic, and the commonplace into visual metaphors for larger questions of existence. Their work suggests that the sublime is not found beyond the material world but embedded within it—in the smallest natural forms, in manufactured objects, and in the fertile intersection of observation and imagination.
In Wiener’s multi-media paintings and prints, torrents of wind sweep ephemera—bags of wind, notebooks and frames–through visionary landscapes. The boundaries between observation and imagination dissolve. Wiener’s miniature sculptural collages, housed within intimate book-like structures, incorporate elemental materials—iron, silicon, aluminum, and calcium—transformed into poetic meditations on nature and time.
Albertini’s sculptures often originate as technical, which appear to be derived from industrial components—brackets, pipes, valves, and other fragments of hardware. Processed through digital modeling and 3-D printing, these forms appear convincingly functional while serving no practical purpose. They evolve into hybrid botanical structures, anthropomorphic assemblages fashioned from plumbing fixtures gone delightfully awry, and amorphous organisms that seem unearthed from an unknown epoch, often contained within box-like architectural frames.
Both artists have exhibited extensively. Bill Albertini’s work has been shown in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Ellen Wiener’s work is represented in the Cooper Hewitt/Smithsonian Museum, The Parrish Museum, Yale University’s Special Collections and numerous rare book repositories throughout Europe and the United States.
