ART FOR HISTORY’S SAKE!
The Museum will have an Art Sale on September 15th! This event will be held at the Remsenburg Academy, a circa 1860 former boys’ school now used as a community center. The Academy is located at 130 South Country Road in Remsenburg.
—————————
Here’s how our sale will work:
The paintings will be originals made this year and will be the same size. None will be signed on the front. Potential purchasers will select what they want to buy based solely on the artwork – not on the artist’s name.
The Museum will host a wine and cheese viewing of the art at the Academy on Friday, September 13th from 4 to 6 pm, with an additional viewing on Saturday, September 14th from 1 to 3 pm. This will give potential purchasers two opportunities to look at the art and decide what they would like to purchase.
The sale will be held on Sunday, September 15th starting at 3 PM. Each painting will be priced at $100. Purchase will be first-come, first-served. If the same painting is selected by multiple people at the same time, the winner will be determined by a coin toss!
Once a painting is purchased the artist’s name will be revealed to the buyer.
Some artwork will be by well-known artists and may have considerably more value than $100. Other artwork may be by relatively-unknown artists and have less apparent value. In any case, buyers will come away with paintings that they like and the Museum will benefitfrom the proceeds. We hope that you will make the time to come to the Academy on September 15th and participate in the sale – who knows what treasure you may bring home?!!!
Our New Website: westhamptonhistorical.org !!!!
In keeping with our recent name change, The Greater Westhampton Historical Museum will very shortly have a new website! Volunteers have been working on WordPress for the past several months to revise and update the pages from our former website.
At present the pages are being assembled and tested and we hope to go live around Labor Day.
Our Engrave-a-Brick Fundraiser: Your Chance for Recognition! In 2022 we built a brick walkway for the Foster-Meeker Heritage Center. This project provided inspiration for our Engrave-a-Brick fundraiser as we also needed to replace badly-worn bricks in the Tuthill House front walkway. We launched this fund-raising project in 2022 with good success and our community of friends continued to support us in 2023. Due to popular demand, this fund-raising effort continues in 2024. Your brick purchase includes engraving of a personal message, the name of a loved one, a business promotional message, or nearly anything else you prefer that fits on up to three lines of up to 15 characters per line. The engraving will last for a lifetime and the proceeds go directly to support the work of the Museum. The cost is now $250 per brick as our cost to purchase the bricks has gone up. At present please go to our (old) website at https://whbhistorical.org/ and click on the Donation Form button on the home page. Once our new website goes live you can click on https://westhamptonhistorical.org/ and find the same Donation Form. The updated form on both sites includes all the current information. The Museum appreciates your continued support!

The Museum Director will take on many of the daily and long-term management tasks for the Museum and the Director of Education will spearhead our community and school programming activities. Both jobs are anticipated to require 20 hours per week and include paid time off. The positions are presently posted on the job boards of the Long Island Museum Association (https://www.longislandmuseumassociation.org/job-opportunities.html) and the Museum Association of New York (https://nysmuseums.org/MANYJobboard?tpg=4). If you are interested in either position, or know someone who might be interested, please take a look at the posted jobs or send us an email at contact@whbhistorical.org.
