Hallockville Museum Farm Announces
Barn-Raising Supper
A Rustically Elegant Fundraiser
in Support of Historic Naugles Barn Restoration
Thursday, August 22nd
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hallockville Museum Farm, an original, preserved 28-acre North Fork farm homestead will host a rustically elegant farm-to-table supper on Thursday, August 22, to raise funds for necessary restoration and improvements of the historic Naugles Barn.
The farm-style fundraising dinner will also pay tribute to former Hallockville board president, Alfonso Martinez-Fonts, in recognition of his leadership and volunteer dedication to the museum farm. Mr. Martinez-Fonts is a co-owner of North Fork Flower Farm, a Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener, and a former president of the Nassau Point Property Owners Association.
“Time and the elements are taking a toll on the Naugles Barn. It needs restoration, preservation and improvements, and we’d like to be able to make better use of it,” explained Hallockville Museum Farm Executive Director Heather Johnson. “We have received a substantial grant from the New York State Council on the Arts for the adaptive re-use of the barn, but we still need to raise approximately $600,000. We hope the Barn-Raising Supper will move us toward that goal and increase awareness of the Naugles Barn project.”
The Barn-Raising Supper (“supper” always defined the evening meal on the farm), will be held on Thursday, August 22 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The menu will feature hyper-local bounty, with some ingredients tended on the Hallockville property, including honey from the farm’s 18 hive apiary. The supper will be prepared by Christopher Michael Catering and served under a tent in the fresh North Fork farm air. Guests will enjoy a gorgeous skyline view sunset and live music performed by Frank Palmeri.
Built in 1937, the Naugles Barn located on Sound Avenue has become a popular local landmark. During the Barn-Raising Supper, the barn will serve as the focal point for an exhibition and auction of works by local artists and photographers that depict scenes around the Hallockville campus. The deadline to submit works for the exhibition is August 1.
Guests will be further entertained by the performance of a skit depicting the Naugles’ family rum-running escapades during Prohibition, which will be performed by members of the North Fork Community Theatre and was written by Hallockville board member and local historian Richard Wines. The performance will be accompanied by a signature rum cocktail created by Evan Bucholz of Brix & Rye. Rounding out the evening will be a silent auction of unique experiential items, including a boat cruise around Shelter Island and a stay at a New Hampshire waterfront cottage.
Beverages to be served at the event include those from local sponsoring wineries Sparkling Pointe, McCall Wines, Peconic Bay Vineyards, and Reilly Cellars. Additional Barn-Raising Supper corporate sponsors include M&T Bank, Daniel Gale Foundation, Suffolk Security Systems, North Fork Woodworking, DeLea Sod Farms and Albano Dental. The event is chaired by Hallockville Board of Directors Vice President Sara Phillips.
Information about sponsorship opportunities and tickets for the Barn-Raising Supper can be found at the Hallockville Museum Farm website at https://hallockville.org/barn-raising-supper/. Individual tickets are $195 for Hallockville members and $225 for non-members.
