Julie Baker, CEO of California’s statewide arts advocacy organizations since 2018, has been a driving force for arts advocacy and creative industry coalitions. A recipient of the 2021 Americans for the Arts Alene Valkanas Award, Julie has championed legislation, resources, and campaigns to support artists and cultural workers.

The Role of the Arts in Education and Our Communities

Join us for an enlightening panel discussion moderated by Regent Roger Tilles, featuring insights from esteemed leaders in the arts, education, and philanthropic sectors. Our distinguished panelists, including Michael Salzman, Interim Director of NYSSMA; Peter Klein, President of the Claire Friedlander Foundation; Dr. James Lentini, President of Molloy University; and Stephanie Turner, Director of Education and Outreach at the Tilles Center, will explore the vital role of the arts in education and their impact on community development.

This session aims to highlight the transformative power of the arts, discuss collaborative strategies for advancing arts education, and address challenges facing today’s educators and arts advocates. Join us to discover how bridging diverse perspectives can enhance educational outcomes and foster vibrant communities.

Building Micro Advocacy Communities Through PEACE

Join April Francis-Taylor, PEACE Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Specialist, and Christine Baum, PEACE Project Manager, for an interactive workshop on leveraging your network for impactful arts education advocacy. Drawing from their critical community of practice (CCoP), they’ll share strategies for collaborative community building and arts-based practices that support 21st Century Skills (21C), Career, College, and Civic Readiness (CCCR), and Culturally Responsive-Sustaining (CR-S) education. Discover practical tools to map your connections and activate micro advocacy communities that create lasting change.

Advocacy 101: Empowering Voices for the Arts

What does it take to be an effective advocate for arts education? In this engaging session, former Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti and Erika Floreska, President of the Long Island Children’s Museum, share practical strategies and tools to amplify your impact. Learn how to mobilize your networks, engage with policymakers and community leaders, and champion the vital role of the arts in education.
