Final push today for arts & music education

2‑minute call to move A6490 in today’s Assembly Education Committee meeting

TAKE ACTION – CALL CHAIR BENEDETTO NOW

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Friends,
Today is a critical day for arts and music education in New York. The Assembly Education Committee is scheduled to meet “off the floor” this afternoon, and we need Chair Michael Benedetto to call up A6490, Assembly Member Dais’ Arts Codification Bill, for a vote.
A6490 would require arts and music education to be incorporated into the curriculum for all public school students and delivered by appropriately certified teachers, helping ensure equitable access to arts learning across New York. This is the bill that would finally put arts and music in law as essential, not optional, parts of a complete education.
You can read the bill here: Bill A6490
Please take 2 minutes this morning to call Assembly Member Michael Benedetto’s office at 518-455-5296 and say:
Dear Chair Benedetto,
I am writing to urge you, as Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, to call up A6490, Assembly Member Dais’ Arts Codification Bill, in today’s final committee meeting.
A6490 would incorporate arts and music education into New York’s public school curriculum for grades 1–12 and ensure instruction is delivered by appropriately certified teachers. This is essential to guaranteeing that all students, regardless of zip code, have access to high‑quality arts and music education as part of a complete education.
This bill has broad support and reflects years of work by educators, arts organizations, families, and community partners across the state. I respectfully ask that you move A6490 forward today by calling it up for a vote in the Education Committee.
Thank you for your leadership and for your attention to this important issue for New York’s students.
