The Long Island Museum (LIM) a Smithsonian affiliate dedicated to American history and art with a Long Island connection is thrilled to announce its upcoming 50th-anniversary celebration of the Art Museum.
Celebrating 50 Years of the LIM Art Museum is sponsored by The Ferentinos Enterprises, LLC, and will take place on April 19th at 6:00 PM in the History Museum located in Stony Brook.
This milestone event will not only mark five decades of artistic excellence but will also serve as a platform to honor the memory of four dedicated individuals; Elizabeth Atwood, Victoria Costigan, Sharon Cowles and Aaron “Bill” Godfrey, who played pivotal roles in shaping the Museum’s legacy.
In 1974, the Art Museum opened to house and exhibit the Museum’s growing art collection. Over the last fifty years, its galleries have played an integral role in the Museum’s mission to make art and history accessible to Long Island’s diverse communities. Exhibitions like the LIM’s award-winning SOMOS/WE ARE: Latinx Artists of Long Island have greatly enriched the Museum’s educational and public programming.

Joshua Ruff, Co-Executive Director of the LIM, expressed his excitement about the upcoming celebration, stating: “We are proud of what we have built, a collection that includes many first-rate artists: Jane Wilson, Helen Torr, William Merritt Chase, William Sidney Mount, and more. On April 19th, we are paying tribute to the people who have helped us strengthen this great collection, as we look to the next 50 years, towards making a great art museum even better.”

The event will feature an evening of art, live music, and remembrance, showcasing the Museum’s rich history and commitment to fostering creativity and appreciation for the arts within the Long Island community. Participating restaurants for the celebration are: Bliss, Elaines, Level Up Kitchen, O Sole Mio, The Trattoria, Villa Sorrento and The Country House. Wine sponsors for the event are: RGNY and Pindar Vineyards.
