The Long Island Museum Welcomes

Two Esteemed Members to its Board of Trustees

Stony Brook – November 12, 2024

The Long Island Museum (LIM) is pleased to announce the appointment of two distinguished professionals, John C. Armentano and Dr. Samuel Aronson, to its Board of Trustees. Both began their terms on July 1, 2024, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to further the museum’s mission of preserving and promoting Long Island’s rich cultural heritage.

Dr. Samuel Aronson, a renowned physicist, brings a stellar career in experimental elementary particle and nuclear physics to the LIM’s board. Aronson has held key leadership roles at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), including serving as Laboratory Director and President of Brookhaven Science Associates. A fellow of the American Physical Society, Aronson has also contributed significantly to numerous national and international scientific boards. 

Since retiring in 2015 from Brookhaven National Laboratory, Aronson worked with Stony Brook University and the Turkana Basin Institute working on green energy development and business development in northern Kenya. Aronson also served on the Advisory Board of Children and Screens; The Institute of Digital Media and Child Development and he is currently serving on the board of the National Off-shore Wind Research and Development Consortium. His broad experience and leadership will offer fresh perspectives for the museum’s future initiatives.

John C. Armentano is a seasoned attorney specializing in land use and municipal law, with a particular focus on zoning, environmental regulations, and property disputes across Long Island. He has extensive experience representing clients at both trial and appellate levels and regularly prepares land use and zoning applications before municipal boards. Armentano also serves as environmental counsel for the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club and is deeply involved in several local causes, including the Captain James Corrigan Memorial Foundation and the Village of Huntington Bay Board of Zoning Appeals. His background and knowledge will be invaluable to the LIM as it navigates future projects and community initiatives.

The Long Island Museum is excited to welcome these two leaders, whose diverse backgrounds will help strengthen the museum’s programs, exhibitions and community engagement. Their contributions will play a key role in shaping the museum’s future as it continues to serve as a vital cultural resource for Long Island.

LONG ISLAND MUSEUM / Carriage Museum

Located at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook, the Long Island Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults and children with an understanding of Long Island’s rich history and diverse cultures. Tickets are available at the History Museum entrance; pre-registration is not required.
