Foundation Update from Chairman Chip Duryea

Dear Friends,

——————–

As we head into the busy summer season we’d like to take a moment to give the community an update of where the Playhouse Foundation’s project to bring an Aquatic and Cultural Center to Montauk stands, let you know what we’ve been working on, and what’s ahead. The good news is that thanks to your generous support, we’re moving forward—and from the strongest position we’ve ever been in!
——————–
Currently, the Foundation is finalizing an updated and comprehensive verification of the construction costs and a new construction timeline, and we will be releasing that information soon. We’re very close to completing the required construction permitting process with the Town—which is another great step forward. To date, the Foundation has raised $3 million through the generosity and support of our community donors. In addition, the Town of East Hampton has committed to contributing $3 million to the project.

Traditionally, we’d announce our latest news at the annual Summer Gala, but this year we’re taking a break from the planning that goes into the Gala in order to keep our resources, Board, and staff laser-focused on our immediate goals—and to keep our momentum going! We’ll be holding our annual summer events like the Ocean Swim and the Peter and the Wolf performance—and we’re excited to announce our collaboration with Montauk musician Nancy Atlas on a new concert series (details coming soon). We’ll also hold some smaller gatherings and events, to keep the community informed about the project, and to keep the door open—as always—to your thoughts, ideas, and support!
——————–
We’ve engaged new, experienced leadership for both the Foundation Board and in our office. We’re pleased to announce that Julia McCormack has joined us as the Foundation’s Director of Development. Julia is a skilled fundraising professional with nearly three decades of experience, who recently settled on the East End after spending much of her career in Manhattan and Connecticut. Since January, she has brought a fresh and important perspective and lots of great new ideas. Montauk local Lauren Maldonado, our new Administrative Assistant whose background is in finance and accounting, joins Julia in the Foundation’s office. Stop by our office the next time you’re at the Playhouse to meet them both!
——————–
It’s a new chapter at the Playhouse Foundation. We’re working towards our goal of bringing an Aquatic and Cultural Center to Montauk. Thank you for your generosity, enthusiasm, and support that have gotten us to this point.
——————–
Sincerely,
Perry B. Duryea III, Chairman
