Why we should honor Lafayette.

This plate is a bit of a cheat — but it represents an important New London element of Lafayette’s 1824 arrival in America. In 1824, the general missed the boat that was to bring him to NY. NL Captain Francis Allyn, who was in France, offered to bring Lafayette to the US on the boat he captained, the Cadmus, –and he did! Read more.

On August 14 Capt. Allyn brought Lafayette from France to Sandy Hook, NJ. This Staffordshire plate ca. 1850 depicts Lafayette coming into New York, proper, on the 16th with much fanfare!
