OBIT takes viewers behind the scenes of The New York Times obituary desk, where a small team of writers preserves the stories of remarkable lives that might otherwise be forgotten. Through their work, the film reveals how obituaries become more than announcements of death; they are carefully crafted portraits that capture history, humanity, and the lasting impact of ordinary and extraordinary people alike.
OBIT offers a thoughtful look at memory, storytelling, and the passage of time. Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a special Q&A with director Vanessa Gould, former New York Times obituaries editor William “Bill” McDonald, and former New York Times obituary writer Bruce Weber.
A special thank you to Kathleen Kmet Becker for her generous support of this July Docuseries.
