Casting actors/singers of all ages, races, gender identities, sizes, with colorful stage personalities to play 20 delegates navigating unprecedented political waters in the award-winning musical 1776, arguably the most American of all American musicals.

With no traditional chorus or nameless ensemble, this show boasts 24 named speaking roles in a passionate musical celebrating bold visions, unapologetic arguments, with no shortage of debate stamina. 1776 is a verbal firestorm of points and counterpoints with high stakes and a big cast, portraying an iconic moment in American history (having its 250th anniversary this year). Come on down!

Show Concept:
This production is conceived as an imagined dramatization of an historical event, not an actual reenactment; accordingly, we are NOT recreating the appalling lack of diversity that characterized power and leadership 250 years ago. We are playfully setting the central event with dramatic license to see this story as a human dilemma, unpacked by a broad spectrum of people, reflecting the diversity of our community today.
To that end, ALL roles are open to everyone – with playful liberty and casting justice for all — with one exception: the intention to cast a woman as John Adams, leading this brazen story with a passion and determination that lives equally in men and women.
Note: Several lead roles have solos, duets, trios; and, there are just as many speaking roles with no solo singing whatsoever.

Audition Information:
Prepare a song (from the show, or not, up to you) that shows you at your musical theater best. Not just vocally, but how you deliver the character, story, arc of the song. If you have a lyric soprano range, prepare something that shows that part of your voice, whether as your first choice or a second option for contrast if your first choice sits lower.
An accompanist will be provided. Bring sheet music if you want to go that route, or feel free to use your own track on your phone, or sing acapella. Your choice.
Additionally, you may be asked to read from the script.

Callbacks: Wednesday, January 7th 6:30–9pm. If you are called back, you MUST attend to be considered for the show, no exceptions.
First rehearsal: Wednesday, January 14th; thereafter, Monday through Thursday evenings every week until the show opens Thursday, March 12th.
We will do our best to see everyone who wants to audition. If you do not reserve a slot, but want to audition, those without appointments will be seen at the end, as time allows.
