The star of the play could be YOU.

Click the same link above and sign up if you’d like to read one of the roles.

At the beginning of the event Joey will pick names out of a hat and cast the play at random. There are 25 parts available and scripts will be provided.

Our Town is about community and so we will read it as a community, with our own villagers playing all the parts.

Feel free to bring some snacks to share, if you feel so inclined. Beverages will be provided. And please note that the “performance” will be filmed for archival purposes.

We hope to see you there!

Our Town

Our Town, Thornton Wilder’s 1938 Pulitzer and Tony award winning play in three-acts, has been described by Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written.” The play follows the villagers of the fictional American town of Grover’s Corners through space and time; life and death. The everyday lives of these citizens are filtered through a poetic lense that is both metaphysical and profound.

Thornton Wilder

An acclaimed and experimental playwright and novelist. The winner of the Pulitzer Prize for the novel, The Bridge of San Luis Rey and for the plays, Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth. Wilder is considered by many to be one of the most important American playwrights that has ever lived. He died on December 7th, 1975.

Joey Merlo

Born on December 7th, 1987, Joey’s produced plays this year include the “Brilliant/Highbrow” (NY Mag) On Set with Theda Bara and “The year’s most twisted psychosexual melodrama” (NYT), Midnight Coleslaw. He has been called “One of the most original and exciting voices writing for the NY stage at the moment.” (Theatermania). He is grateful to be part of the Oysterponds community and thanks the residency trustees and the ghost of William Steeple Davis for giving him this opportunity. www.joeymerlo.com
