Spring 2025 Newsletter

A message from Alison Ventura, OHS Executive Director…

Any day now–thanks to the green thumbs of the students of Oysterponds Elementary School (see photo below)–scores of dafodills will be blooming across the OHS campus. They’ll herald spring’s arrival and signal that Oysterponds is waking from its winter slumber! OHS hasn’t been hibernating, though–as you can see from the calendar below, we’ve been hard at work planning this season’s events, talks, exhibitions, and community gatherings.

We look forward to seeing you in the coming months!

Spotlight on an Upcoming Exhibition in Village House

We’re very excited about an upcoming exhibition in Village House that focuses on the artwork of Oysterponds siblings Freddie Wachsberger (b. 1935) and her brother Clyde “Skip” Wachsberger (1945-2011). Over the years both became well-known figures in Orient: Skip for his books and for creating the most important garden in Orient at his house on Village Lane, and Freddie for devoting an abundance of time and energy to help save Orient from over-development and for her long-standing commitment to the Oysterponds Historical Society. In this instance OHS is celebrating them for their exceptional art and impressive artistry.

—————————————–

In the Family Eye: Landscapes by Freddie and Skip Wachsberbger contains lasting images of the Oysterponds landscape as it looked in the last two decades of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st.
