Martha (“Marty”) McLanahan

The Parrish Art Museum announces the appointment of Martha (“Marty”) McLanahan to the Board of Trustees, effective June, 2020. A Southampton homeowner since 1964, Marty has a sustained commitment to philanthropy on the East End and beyond.

“We are all proud and pleased to welcome Marty as a new Board member,” said Board President Mary E. Frank. “She is deeply passionate about art, philanthropy, and the East End, and her longstanding dedication as a committee member of Landscape Pleasures has been key to the continued success of that annual horticultural event.”

“Marty has always been a true ambassador for the Parrish,” said Chris Siefert, Interim Director. “She pays attention to the community, makes connections that advance partnerships, and will be a vital part of our team as we move into the next phase.”

“I look forward to participating in the future of the Parrish by helping to increase the membership and community participation,” said McLanahan. “The Museum is a major cultural asset in the East End—one we are fortunate to have.”

McLanahan is a former board member of the Children’s Aid Society in New York, and Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital. She is currently president of The Lincoln Fund. The hallmark of her 15 years of dedicated service to the Parrish is the guidance and energy she brings to the Landscape Pleasures committee, which she has co-chaired since 2010. A contributor to the Parrish capital campaign, McLanahan is an active Director’s Circle Member and tireless ambassador for the Museum, helping to secure philanthropy for programs and the capital campaign. As a champion of the Museum with a lifelong passion for the performing and visual arts, McLanahan rarely misses exhibition openings, Salon Series concerts, Friday night programs, and special events.

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, McLanahan attended The Ethel Walker School, Briarcliff College, and Columbia University. In addition to a successful career as a decorator specializing in residential projects since the early 1970s, she is an avid skier, tennis player and bridge player.
