Beachway Preserve, Springs
Great news for conservation in Springs! A conservation-minded individual wishing to remain anonymous, recently donated two parcels to the Peconic Land Trust creating the Beachway Preserve. The preserve will provide a relatively large open space area with mature woodland in a densely populated neighborhood.
Prior to the donation, two residential structures were removed. The cleared area was then planted with native grasses. Returning the land back to its natural state will have a positive effect on groundwater quality. Millions of Long Island residents rely on groundwater as their sole drinking water source.
