We are proud to share that Fred and Will Lee and the team at Sang Lee Farms received the AEM-Leopold Conservation Award at the end of September. We congratulate the Lees for this outstanding, and well deserved, honor.

The Trust has worked with Fred and Will for many years. Sang Lee Farms was one of the initial lessees at our Ag Center in Southold as part of our Farms for the Future Initiative. The Lees have not only proven themselves to be great stewards of the land, but they also continue to be generous with their time and experience by providing advice to farmers in our program.

“Fred and Will have been a pleasure to work with over the years. They are dedicated to practicing and sharing sustainable techniques in growing and are professional on all levels. This award is well deserved to them — our congratulations to them and their entire team,” said Dan Heston, Director of Agricultural Programs at the Trust.

About the Award

For the first time, New York’s longstanding Agricultural Environmental Management (AEM) Award has joined forces with the nationally recognized Leopold Conservation Award® program. Given in honor of renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold, the Leopold Conservation Award (LCA) recognizes farmers, foresters and other landowners across the U.S. who inspire others with their dedication to land, water, and wildlife habitat management on working land. The award is presented to landowners in 21 states.
——–
Awarded by the Sand County Foundation, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Markets, the AEM-LCA award honors Sang Lee Farms, along with the Suffolk County Soil and Water Conservation District, for their efforts to protect the environment through the preservation of soil and water quality while ensuring farm viability for future generations. To learn more, visit the Sand County Foundation website.
