Note from John v.H. Halsey, President of the Peconic Land Trust
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During this period of uncertainty, the Peconic Land Trust continues to conserve the land, resources, and bounty that sustain us – food, water, woods, shorelines, and shelter from the storm. You can be part of making all this possible.
—–
Staying home has afforded many of us the opportunity to see the impact of the Trust in a new light. We see first-hand the importance of local farms providing healthy food to everyone in our community through direct sales and food pantries.
—–
Having been indoors for so long, we feel even more joy and peace when we walk on the beach, hike in the woods, or simply watch farmers planting crops in their fields.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Indeed, the ocean and bays, the farms and fields, and the woods and wetlands that define this unique part of the world constitute a refuge for nature, wildlife, and people.
—–
But this refuge is more vulnerable to destruction than ever before.
—–
The pace of development continues, the number of people grows, and our fragile infrastructure, both natural and manmade, is stressed beyond belief. While many people have helped us protect over 13,000 acres of working farms and natural lands, there remains much more to do. That is why we need your support now more than ever.
—–
You can conserve and steward more of what you know and love with a gift of $100 today! Whether it’s a single gift, or a monthly one, you make this work possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your gift will be put to immediate use helping farmers obtain access to affordable farmland, safeguarding our land, drinking water and coastal ponds, and providing fresh, local food and places to explore nature for everyone in our diverse community.
—–
Here are just a few things that need your help right now:
—–
~Our Farms for the Future Initiative is assisting and mentoring 28 farmers planting over 200 acres of farm fields on the North and South Forks.~
—–
~Quail Hill Farm has created a Farm to Food Pantry program to deliver fresh, locally grown produce to children and families in our community in need.~
—–
~Over 100 community gardeners are growing their own food sustainably at our Agricultural Center and Bridge Gardens.~
—–
~Our Stewardship staff is restoring, managing, and protecting conserved land including trails for you to explore nature safely.~
—–
~Our Conservation Programs staff is seeking more private capital to protect critical farmland, watershed areas, and vulnerable shorelines given dwindling State and County funds.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The need for our work continues, and your gift will make it happen. If you can, please donate $100 today to conserve the land, water, and bounty that sustains us. The East End is Long Island’s refuge more than ever before – we must do everything we can steward and protect it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you so much for your support. Together we will do amazing things during these trying times! Please call or email me if you have any questions. I‘d love to hear from you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stay safe and be well.

Yours,
John v.H. Halsey, President
P.S.  Whether it’s a single gift, or a monthly one, you make this work possible. Please donate today!
