Full Moon Night Hike

Friday, May 5th, 8:00 PM — 9:30 PM

Celebrate the Full Moon with a hike through the forest up to North Pond as we look and listen for nocturnal and crepuscular creatures, and enjoy some night vision activities under the light of the moon. Reservations required at least 24 hours in advance, as space is limited.

A program for adults and families with children over 11. Payment is required at time of reservation. $10/members, $20/non-members.

Natural History of Long Island Hike

Saturday, May 6th, 9:00 AM — 11:00 AM

Join Dr. David Taylor, Assistant Professor in the Sustainability Studies Program and director of Environmental Humanities at SUNY Stony Brook University’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, for a guided hike at the Refuge. During the walk you will learn the natural history of Long Island, how it was formed, as well as the common flora and fauna of the Pine Barrens.

Registration is required, as space is limited. This program is geared towards adults and interested teens; $5/person.

Water Quality Update: Citizen Science

Saturday, May 20th, 10:00 AM — 11:00 AM

Join Robert J. Mozer — certified professional geologist and hydrogeologist with a background that includes investigating Superfund sites — for a presentation on an environmental investigation of seven freshwater ponds in the town of Southampton, and learn about the opportunities for the public to get involved as Citizen Scientists by helping to collect data.

This is a free program; registration is required as space is limited.

World Turtle Day Celebration

Saturday, May 20th, 2:00 PM — 2:45 PM

Meet a variety of live turtles and tortoises during QWR’s Annual World Turtle Day celebration! Participants will learn all about Long Island’s turtles through a short powerpoint presentation, then meet our resident turtles, and learn what you can do to help local species.

A program for adults and families in the nature center. Reservations are required, as space is limited. $5/person.
