Annual Bird Seed Sale Fundraiser
Saturday, November 2nd, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Start the winter off with plenty of seed and enjoy your winter observing the birds at your feeders!  Pick up the seed and suet cakes you ordered!
This is a fundraiser for Eastern Long Island Audubon Society and for the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, thanks to the generosity of Talmage Farm Agway.All orders must be picked up on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM!

Rites of Spring Music Concert
Saturday, November 2nd, 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

QWR is honored to host RoSMC, designed to explore the many dimensions of the East End of Long Island with a combination of music, history and our natural environment. This concert will feature music by Nina Bernat, playing double bass, and Eleni Katz, playing bassoon.

Ticket price is $50/general audience, $30/members of QWR and RoSMF. FREE tickets for youth under 25.  To buy tickets or for more information, visit RitesMusic.org.

 Opossum Animal Ambassador Story Time
Saturday, November 9th at 10:00 AM

Join Quogue Library storyteller for a special story hour, including a simple craft and a special visit from one of our ambassador animals. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This program is offered in collaboration with the Quogue Library.

Water Quality Update- Citizen Science Learning Center, Inc
Saturday, November 9th, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Come to the nature center for a presentation on an environmental investigation of seven freshwater ponds in the Town of Southampton, including Old Ice Pond at QWR. CSLC is a nonprofit environmental organization committed to educating Suffolk County residents by actively engaging them in hands-on, science-based investigations, with a current focus to work proactively against Harmful Algae Blooms (HABs) occurring in ponds and small lakes within the Town of Southampton.

Moths of Long Island
Wednesday, November 13th, at 7:00 PM
Long Island is home to some of the most remarkable moth species, yet they often go unnoticed because their busiest hours are while we’re fast asleep. Join entomologist Jared Dyer as he reveals the fascinating world of these nocturnal creatures, highlighting their incredible diversity, life cycles, and crucial roles in local ecosystems as both pollinators and prey. In this presentation, you’ll learn about Long Island’s unique moth species and explore the environmental challenges they face, from habitat loss to light pollution. Discover how moths influence agriculture, how scientists monitor their populations, and what steps you can take to help protect these often-overlooked but vital insects.
$5 per person, members attend for free.

Full Moon Night Hike
Friday, November 15th, 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM

Celebrate the full moon with a nighttime hike through the forest up to North Pond as we look and listen for nocturnal creatures, and enjoy some night vision activities under the light of the moon.

Reservations required at least 24 hours in advance; payment required at time of reservation. A program for adults and families with children over 11.  $10/members, $20/non-members.

Restorative Aquaculture with Shinnecock Kelp Farmers:
Regenerating for Generations, Harvesting Hope

Meet the Shinnecock Kelp Farmers and learn about the impact that seaweed has had on their Tribal community for generations, how kelp is healing our waters today, and how their traditional teachings are combining with climate science to save our shores for the next seven generations and beyond.

Get Arty at QWR
Saturday, Nov 16th, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Join “GET ARTY” for a two-hour party at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, and connect with your inner artist A certified art instructor & assistant artist teach the class including color theory & painting techniques. “GET ARTY” instruction promotes self-expression so every 9” X 12” canvas art work will be unique. A Heron image has been chosen for inspiration, and all materials are provided. No creative or artistic skills are needed. www.getarty.fun.  A glass of wine and light snacks are included.

$40 per person, reservations required as space is limited.

Fireside Poetry – A Celebration of Poetry, Nature, and our Environment
Saturday, November 23rd, 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

QWR presents an afternoon of fireside poetry reading in the Nature Center, hosted by local poet and published author Maggie Bloomfield.  Open reading for poets, listeners, and friends. Bring a poem of your own, a favorite by someone else, a very short essay to read, or just enjoy a warm respite. All ages are invited to read.  Tea and cookies will be offered, feel free to bring a reusable mug.
