Kopelman, Ph.D. President, Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Island for this exciting and informative program all about marine mammals, which are a highly specialized group of animals including pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, fur seals and walrus), carnivores (sea otters and polar bears), sirenians (manatees and dugongs), and cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises) adapted to life in the sea. The waters of Long Island are home to several species of marine mammals, many of which may be viewed with increasing regularity from shore or via a short boat trip. Dive in and explore this fascinating group of animals while learning about the amazing seal, whale, and dolphin species that inhabit our local waters.  This free program is appropriate for general audience/all ages.

Join QWR “out in the wild” at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge in Shirley, NY! Celebrate the annual World Migratory Bird Day at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge’s annual celebration from 10am – 3pm. QWR will be bringing our feathered friends for a day of learning all about the importance of protecting birds. No registraion is required.

Join QWR “out in the wild” at übergeek Brewing Company at 400 Hallett Avenue in Riverhead for a slideshow presentation on the Owls of Long Island, then meet one of our resident owls. This program is part of the ‘Geek Talk Series’, and attendees are treated to an interesting lecture about a unique topic while enjoying craft beer and a rotation of food trucks. Join us for a fun evening, festivities start at 7pm, lecture starts at 8pm!

Celebrate the full moon with a guided hike through the forest up to North Pond as we look and listen for nocturnal creatures, and enjoy some night vision activities under the light of the moon.
