This show presents a fantastic look at books—creative books, what books mean to us, censorship of books, and more. With guidance from Barbara and using the inspiration of the SAC show, bookmakers will develop a theme for their book and manipulate materials on hand to make a book of any fun, conceptual, and creative shape, size, or idea. A book can take any form! Barbara will assist bookmakers in different ways to write, draw, fold, bind, cut, glue, paint, etc., to realize a unique book.

TALK: JOHN’S MEMORY BOOK

Join Look at the Book artist John Buchbinder and Marta Kazandjian to discuss John’s Memory Book. John Buchbinder was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and during treatment experienced an adverse event that impacted his speech. His work with Marta Kazandjian, a local and dedicated speech pathologist, resulted in the discovery that his photographs, printed and pasted in spiral bound notebooks with the help of his wife, Nikki Shomer, sparked his recall of meaningful moments…becoming his “Photographic Memory.”

Once upon a time, before open concepts and eat-in kitchens became the must-have element of a home, the dining room was second only to the kitchen as the heart and hearth of any dwelling. In 1982, A R Gurney examined the worth, value and purpose of the center of most family holidays, declamations, disagreements and life-altering events. 

Directed by Michael Disher, A R Gurney’s The Dining Room features Daniel Becker, Susan Cincotta, Susan Conklin, Richard Gardini, Tom Gregory, Barbara Jo Howard, Jenifer Maxson, Franco Pistritto, Jack Seabury, Michaal Lyn Schepps, Christopher Tyrrko and Gerri Wilson.

STUDIO: FIGURE DRAWING WORKSHOP
Fridays | 1 PM

Working from a live model, artist Linda Capello’s figure drawing workshop will explore techniques of line, mass, gesture, proportion, and foreshortening, starting with short poses and working towards one long pose. Each student will receive personal attention and detailed instruction. Dry mediums such as soft vine charcoal, conte, or graphite, and kneaded erasers, and 14″x17″ or larger pads, are requested.
