Filmed by cinéma vérité pioneers Richard Leacock, D.A. Pennebaker, and Albert Maysles, Robert Drew’s 1960 documentary PRIMARY is considered a groundbreaking work in the documentary movement. The film follows a young John F. Kennedy as he faces Hubert Humphrey in the Wisconsin presidential primary, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at a pivotal moment in American politics.
The screening will feature an introduction by Robert Leacock, Director/Cinematographer and son of Richard Leacock, one of the film’s pioneering filmmakers. Robert Leacock has directed and filmed numerous acclaimed projects, including Christy Turlington’s CATWALK, Madonna’s TRUTH OR DARE, and Al Pacino’s LOOKING FOR RICHARD.
