‘Lady Bountiful’

M. Olivia Sage

Known locally as “Lady Bountiful,” Mrs. Sage’s beneficence was directly responsible for a number of major projects that shaped our village at the beginning of the 20th century, including the railroad station, John Jermain Library, Pierson High School and Mashashimuet Park.

Mrs. Sage was also a figure of national importance, being one of the most influential philanthropists of her day and an active participant in the early struggle for women’s rights.  It is in honor of these activities that the Pomeroy Foundation has graciously funded our new plaque, as part of the national celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Woman’s Suffrage Movement.

Historical Marker Dedicated October 28, 2017.
