And as we begin to celebrate this festive time of year, we thought we’d remind you that Giving Tuesday is coming up, and to share again this message from our Board of Directors President, Mary Fran Gleason.
“The past year has paved the way for us to be our most innovative in providing creative and meaningful experiences through our stimulating exhibits and programs. For students, lifelong learners, and families, the Shelter Island Historical Society has helped reconnect us with each other and our historical roots.
“We are looking forward to seeing you here for another exciting season of exhibitions, presentations, and educational programs. What better reason to make a year end gift to support us? Together we’ll cultivate and enrich the programs, so we continue to meet our community’s ever-changing needs and curiosity.
“Thank you in advance for your gift.”

The photo is a painting by Helen Myers of Esther Sarah Havens home. Once the oldest house on Shelter Island, it was located at “Sarah’s Corner,” opposite Heritage Drive on what is now South Ferry Road. Esther was the daughter of Nicoll Havens and Sarah Fosdick.
