MEET UP AT THE SHELTER ISLAND HISTORY MUSEUM!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
|
The Shelter Island History Museum is proud to support local organizations and groups by offering indoor meeting space as well as spots at our Farmers’ Market. While we ready our Havens House exhibition space for this summer’s “Generations of Shelter Island Impressionists” exhibit, a number of these groups have been busy here as well.
———————————-
Here are just a few:
————
Shelter Island High School Externship — Jim Theinhart from SIHS organizes externships, local professional development opportunities, for interested students. Recently the Externship program offered eight students the chance to learn from highly-regarded local digital artist Roz Dimon. The group met daily at the museum and used our archival, as well as online, resources to create their own works of digital art.
|
———————————-
The Arts Community of SI (TACSI) — Begun during the pandemic as an online platform to connect people in the arts on the Island, since 2021 TACSI has continued to meet in person twice a month to share creative projects, resources, processes, etc., and to provide support and inspiration to each other.
|
———————————-
Chamber of Commerce — The Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce, a long standing not-for-profit entity serving the local business community of Shelter Island, held their recent breakfast meeting here. Many of the Chamber’s activities and events are designed and used to attract tourism and visitors to Shelter Island for the benefit of the business community.
|
———————————-
League of Women Voters — The League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island and the North Fork encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
|
———————————-
Book Club — The SI Book Club is a free program organized by the SI Public Library and led by Suzanne Louer. They gather once a month at the Museum to discuss that month’s well-regarded work of fiction or nonfiction!
———————————-
DAR — The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through education.
———————————-
Shelter Island Friends of Trees — (SIFoT) was founded in 1996 by Yioula Van Rynbach and others. Since its inception, SIFoT has planted more than 100 trees in public spaces on Shelter Island and designated over 75 significant trees as Landmark Trees.
