Shelter Island History Museum Announces
Exhibit Sponsorship
from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Shelter Island History Museum is thankful for the generous sponsorship support from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation for its upcoming exhibit, “Havens House: Witness The American Revolution,” opening June 6, and programming centered around life on Shelter Island during the mid-1700s.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The exhibit will largely feature our Digital Tapestry AR panels that tell the story of the Havens family during the Revolution. Displays of historic artifacts, archival materials, textiles, replicas, and live-action vignettes of significant moments in local revolutionary history, performed by volunteers, will create an immersive experience about Shelter Island’s key role in the American Revolution. To complement the exhibit we will also host a 250th Speaker & Programs Series that is open and free to the public. Thus far, we have booked Zach Studenroth, Bill Bleyer, and Noel Gish to present on Historic Homes, the Culper Spy Ring, and the Battle of Long Island, respectively. In addition to our exhibit and speaker series, the SIHM will present “Shelter Island During the Revolution” on June 28th for the annual Historic Sunday at Union Chapel. And our annual Shelter Island House Tour event will feature historic and Revolutionary-era homes.
“We are deeply grateful to the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation for their continued commitment to preserving and sharing Shelter Island’s history,” said Nanette Lawrenson, executive director. “Their support allows us to bring meaningful, high-quality exhibitions to our visitors and ensures that local history remains accessible and engaging for all generations.”
“This 250th year is to celebrate Long Island’s important role in the American Revolution. All of our local communities can share this story. The RDLGF is delighted to continue its support of the Shelter Island History Museum’s efforts to preserve and share historic events,” said Kathryn M. Curran, Executive Director of the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation.
