Spring is here!

Dear Slow Food Friends,

Thank you for being here. In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, we find ourselves turning to what is steady, nourishing, and true—our community. At Slow Food East End, we believe in the power of food to connect, heal, and inspire. We are small, but we pack a punch, bringing people together through shared meals, meaningful conversations, and a commitment to good, clean, and fair food for all.

As we look ahead, we are excited to deepen our work with you—our farmers, fishers, chefs, educators, and eaters—to build a more resilient and fair food system. Whether it’s through our events, our advocacy for local producers, or the simple act of breaking bread together, we are reminded that change starts with small, intentional acts that ripple outward.Thank you for being part of this movement. Your support fuels our work, and we can’t wait to see what we create together.

With Gratitude,

Maria McBride

Final Call: Flour Power Bake is Next Week!

Get ready to turn on your ovens —our second quarter Flour Power initiative kicks-off next week! Congrats to our NEW Snail of Approval

Main Road Biscuit Co. celebrated their award last month with the community

This winter, we were hard at work meeting with local business owners and operators and awarding the coveted Snail of Approval to four new businesses on the East End!

We recently celebrated recipient Main Road Biscuit Co. – the owner our very own board member Marissa Drago’s restaurant in Jamesport. If you’ve never been, it prides itself on being a welcoming community gathering spot, with locally-focused, always delicious breakfast and lunch.

SOA’s have also been awarded to:

Stay tuned for our celebration events for each of these awardees!

Slow the Forks Down

People, places and things you should know about on the East End

Spring has arrived on the East End! That means our local Farm Stands are re-opening, seedlings are sprouting and a spirit of renewal and growth is abound. There are many ways to enjoy spring right now.

Let’s plant!

This time of year is when the natural worlds starts to awaken, which means it is time to start planning your home garden! Slow Food has committed to trying to save heirloom seeds through their Arc of Taste program. You can find several varieties that are specific to your region through the program. Here are some of the seed companies that we recommend to get started:

Last Chance to sign up for a local CSA!

If you haven’t signed up yet, now is your last chance! Most CSA’s have already filled up, but there are a few spot still open. Remember: by joining a CSA, you are directly supporting your local farmer and therefore your local economy. Here are some of our faves:

Agriculture News:

This year more than ever it is so important to support local farms because of the recent federal freeze on farmer grants, funding and more. Some ways you can help out:

  • Call your local representative and tell them to oppose the freeze on farmer grants and funding, and the budget cuts for agriculture and markets.
  • Buy local as much as possible which directly supports your farmers and community.
  • Read about farmers doing inspiring work in sustainability in The Rooted Journal here.
  • Get involved in your local community and support those that are fighting to keep as much farm land farmed! If you don’t know about the Peconic Land Trust check them out.
  • Help young people get access to farm land, and support initiatives to circumvent recent loses. The Young Farmer Coalition is a great resource.

WE ARE SLOW FOOD
