Slow Food East End Honors Peconic Bay Medical Center

with a Snail of Approval for Farm to Bed Philosophy

For the last 8 years, PBMC has made significant strides to transform their food service — incorporating the farming culture that surrounds them on the East End as well as the skill set of their highly experienced culinary team. This award celebrates the medical center’s exceptional efforts to elevate the patient dining experience through high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients. As the East End Beacon noted when reporting on the award and PBMC, “Come for the care, stay for the food.”

One of the treasures of living on the East End is that we are surrounded by an abundance of fresh produce and farms growing using good, clean, fair practices.

Supporting local, sustainable and organic farmers in your area is one of the best ways to advance an overall sustainable food system. The bounty available in August makes us want to visit our local farms, get to know the farmers, and purchase the best tomatoes, zucchini, melons, eggplant, peppers and corn!
