Collections Corner: The Motts Visit Southwold, England

——————

Recently, we got a research request from England that had us wondering how we were going to answer! The researcher sent us the picture seen here and wanted to know who the people were on the far right.

After thinking about it for a bit, we did some research and it turns out that Gladys and Stanton Mott went to Southwold, England in 1955. Upon their return, they published the exact same photograph in Traveler- Watchman Newspaper. Thankfully it had a caption!

The picture was taken in front of Southwold Town Hall. From left to right: Mr. H.A. Liquorish (Town Clerk), Mr. Wells (The Mace Bearer), Mayor F.G. Baggott, Mrs. Baggott, Stanton Mott, and Gladys Mott.

Volunteers Needed for Our Holiday Events

————————

Would you consider donating a few hours of your time at our magical holiday events?  We are in need of volunteers at the Candlelight Tour & Tree Lighting on Nov. 29 from 3pm – 6pm, and the Holiday Fair on Dec. 7 from 9am – 4pm.

For the Candlelight Tour, we are looking for people interested in decorating before the event, and for persons able to organize children’s events, or just help out the day of the Candlelight Tour.

We are also looking for people to assist with the Holiday Fair, and also for someone to organize a bake sale. The bake sale is very popular and 100% of the proceeds benefit the Museum.

If you have availability, please email info@southoldhistorical.org or call 631.765.5500.

Thank you!
