Special Thanks to a Talented Volunteer

——————-

A talented and thoughtful volunteer, who wishes to remain anonymous, recently created a custom display stand for Horton Point Lighthouse’s Faking Box. We’re grateful for their craftsmanship and generosity!

The Faking Box played an important role in historic maritime rescues. Used with a Lyle Gun, it held hundreds of yards of carefully wound line that could be fired from shore to a shipwreck when rough seas made rescue by boat impossible. The line helped crews rig a breeches buoy, allowing stranded sailors to be pulled safely to shore.

Thank you to our talented volunteer for helping us better display and preserve this fascinating piece of lifesaving history!
