History As You Like It:

“Setting the Record Straight” by Mary Korpi

Learn about the interesting history of Augustin Fresnel, the French physicist and civil engineer who developed the Fresnel lens used in lighthouse beacons across the globe in our latest “History as You Like It”.

“Setting the Record Straight” by Mary Korpi discusses how Fresnel championed the theory that light travels in waves, not in particles as commonly believed at the time. His research into light and refracting glass was almost an obsession, and led him to the creation of the first glass lenses that revolutionized the use of lighthouses to warn seafaring vessels of danger. Read the story of a man whose passion saved countless ships from their doom upon the rocky shores.
