We are so excited to announce that all three of our locations were voted as the “Best of the Best” on the North Fork by Dan’s Papers.

-Southold Historical Museum was voted as “Best Museum”.

-The Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse is “Best Family Attraction”.

-Treasure Exchange was voted “Best Thrift Shop”.

This is an incredible honor! We are so thankful to all who voted for us.

We hope you will come and see what all the excitement is about at our three locations. The Treasure Exchange is currently open Friday and Saturday, 11am – 3pm.

Calling all Foodies! Our Free Winter Lecture Series Continues March 9

Historic Cook Diane Schwindt will discuss “An Historic Timeline of Food” for the next lecture in Southold Historical Museum’s free winter series, Saturday, March 9, at 11am at Southold Town Recreation Center.

Diane Schwindt will take the audience on a journey to learn about the evolution of food. She will explain the advancements and improvements that have been made over time and demonstrate the use of some of the tools that have been used throughout the progression. There may even be some opportunity for tasting.

Southold Historical Museum’s winter lecture series, titled “Farm to Table: A Not So New Concept” is free and open to the public. The next lecture with Chef Tom Schaudel will be Apr. 8.

Spring Cleaning? Donate Your Gently Used Items to the Treasure Exchange

Would you consider donating some of your fine, gently used items if you are looking to de-clutter. Our office in the Prince Building, 54325 Main Road, takes donations 10am – 2pm, Monday through Friday, or the Treasure Exchange is open 11am – 3pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Some of the items we appreciate include home decor, kitchenware, jewelry, antiques, vintage toys, fashion accessories. All sales support the mission of the Museum.

See How Our Interns Interpreted Our Local History: Charles Morgan Ship

Over the summer, our Bainbridge Memorial Intern and Gardiner Young Scholar chose items they enjoyed from our collection and created video shorts briefly explaining their stories. In this video, Joseph Earley discusses the model of the Charles Morgan Whaling Ship at the Nautical Museum at Horton Point.

The interns were free to choose whatever they liked and then conducted research to learn more about our collection.
