Two Large Group Tours Welcomed in October

—————————-

We were so pleased to recently welcome two large tour groups to our Maple Lane Complex of historic buildings on Oct. 17 and 24. The tours were coordinated through the Massapequa Adult Continuing Education program and were operated by Bruce Michael Tours. Two groups of approximately 50 people were greeted at the Museum each day and toured the property, learning about the early history of Southold and exploring the buildings and artifacts. The tours are a part of our effort to expand interest and education about the Museum outside our community.

If you’re interested in arranging a private tour of the Maple Lane Complex or Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse for your group, club, team, etc., please contact us at 631-765-5500 or info@southoldhistorical.org

Collections Corner: The Good Fairy

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
————
This carefree statue in our collection was created by Josephine Kern, who was commissioned by Jessie McCutcheon Raleigh Nelson of Chicago. Ms. Nelson had the Armor Bronze Company make duplicates of the original statue in a variety of sizes for purchase. It became quite popular. Later, the figure was even made available by a soap company. Our cast metal statue, c. 1916, is a ten-inch model that is displayed in the Ann Currie-Bell House.
