 The Parry Sisters: Suffolk County in the Wild West

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Display in our History in the Hall Display Cases beginning March 11, 2020
At the dawn of the twentieth century, the traveling circus was one of the most popular forms of entertainment in America, and the Parry Sisters, Etheyle and Juanita Parry of Riverhead, became recognized as two of the greatest women stunt horseback riders in the nation. They performed all over America from 1907 to 1918 as part of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, the Miller Brothers 101 Ranch Show, and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus. This display case exhibit showcases the Parry Sisters’ performance costumes and beadwork, items they collected during their national tours, and other artifacts that tell the story of their amazing exploits as female circus performers.
