Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Joins the Boston Pops & Keith Lockhart at Tanglewood on

June 30 at 7 p.m.

New Addition to Summer Schedule Brings Members of the Jerry Garcia Band Back to the Shed

Tickets go on sale Friday, March 27 at 12 p.m.

The Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration with the Boston Pops and conductor Keith Lockhart is the latest addition to Tanglewood’s 2026 season, further broadening the summer’s robust lineup of artists across many genres performing from June 20 through September 6. The celebration, which features members of the Jerry Garcia Band, returns to the Koussevitzky Music Shed on Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m.

The Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration (JGSC) honors 60 years of the Grateful Dead and Garcia’s enduring legacy. This groundbreaking orchestral adventure – curated by the Garcia family – will feature Garcia’s storied original compositions as well as classic interpretations of timeless standards that were hallmarks of Garcia and the Grateful Dead’s storied concerts. The program features an all-star lineup, including Jerry Garcia Band members Melvin Seals on organ and vocalist Jacklyn LaBranch; guitarist/songwriter Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead); bassist Grahame Lesh (Phil Lesh & Friends); drummer John Morgan Kimock (Mike Gordon); and vocalist Kanika Moore (Doom Flamingo).

The JGSC performed with the Pops at Tanglewood in 2013 and 2016. In June 2025, they joined the Pops and Lockhart for two sold-out concerts at Symphony Hall, which a review on Boston.com stated “fused improvisational energy with orchestral precision” and offered a “family reunion of sorts to honor the legendary guitarist” who died in 1995.

Tickets go on sale Friday, March 27 at 12 p.m. at tanglewood.org.

Boston Pops

Led by conductor Keith Lockhart, the Boston Pops, known affectionately as “America’s Orchestra,” performs an exciting and eclectic mix of orchestral arrangements from a wide range of traditions including pop, film music, Broadway and the great American songbook, classical, jazz, country, folk, and, of course, holiday classics. The Pops was created in 1885 as the “light classical” summer-season venture of the Boston Symphony. The Boston Pops Orchestra reached its current iconic status during the 50-year tenure of the legendary Arthur Fiedler, who was succeeded in 1980 by the equally renowned film composer John Williams. Keith Lockhart took the helm in 1995 and celebrated his 30th anniversary season last year. Together, Keith and the Pops have made 81 television shows, made 45 national and five overseas tours, performed at several high-profile sporting events including the Super Bowl, and recorded fourteen albums. Through it all the orchestra has remained of the most recorded, familiar, and beloved ensembles in the world today.

Since 1974, the Pops has performed the free Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular concert on Boston’s Charles River Esplanade, drawing hundreds of thousands of viewers in person and on TV to celebrate Independence Day. This year’s July 4 event is the centerpiece of the Commonwealth’s MA250 celebration.

The Pops appears several other times this summer at Tanglewood, including their July 2 concert featuring Broadway classics by Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein with Damon Gupton conducting. They also perform the annual John Williams Film Night on August 15 with Lockhart conducting and concerts starring superstars Hugh Jackman with Lockhart leading and Cynthia Erivo with Anthony Parnther conducting on August 11 and 21, respectively.
