Description: Students will research, imagine, design, engineer, evaluate, improve and communicate their own unique, one-of-a-kind car!

STEAM Topics Covered: Energy systems, transportation, simple machines, forces, Laws of Motion, measurement, geometry, automobile design, hands-on tools

Suggested Supplies: For this class, imagination and some basic gathering are required!

  • Think recyclables, scraps, arts/crafts, odds and ends, unused toys
  • Hot glue gun, tape, scissors, protractor, colored markers/pencils/construction paper

1)  Car body.  Cardboard, card-stock, foam, folders, index cards, and/or paper, empty plastic bottles, rigid panels, planes, or platforms.

2)  Wheels. Anything round, such as bottle caps, lids, disks, toy wheels, cups, tubes or material that can be cut into circles.

3)  Axles. Straws, coffee stirrers, tubes, rods, dowels, toothpicks, cue-tips, eye hooks, paperclips, round pens/pencils, push pins, nails.

4)  Car top Design.  What type of look, amenities, and passengers do you want on your vehicle?  Will you make your own or gather old toys and other objects to adorn your ride?  Will a LEGO Darth Vader or Sponge Bob drive your car?  Maybe it’s driver-less!  Does it even have a steering wheel, or is it a rolling playground?  It’s ALL up to YOU!!!

Now Online Every Wed. and Fri: STEAM Camp for KidsEnrich your child’s learning while they’re at home in an online environment that’s educational, fun, and motivating!

Each 90-minute session encourages kids to explore STEAM–Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math–through a guided creative process.

These hands-on virtual classes are facilitated by a certified NY State educator and include a well-being break. During each online session your child will be able to interact with the instructor and other kids for a connective, hands-on experience.

Who Should Attend: Appropriate for most youth ages 6 to 12 years of age

Dates: Every Wednesday and Friday through May 8, 2020
