Thank you to everyone who participated in the Tesla Science Center’s Space Science program, which drew enthusiastic students, volunteers, and experts from across Long Island and beyond!

This year’s launch of our Space Science program was a powerful blend of innovation, collaboration, and exploration, bridging Tesla’s pioneering legacy with modern space exploration. Highlights included Space Apps Brookhaven, a local site for the NASA Space Apps Challenge, where teams tackled the theme “The Sun Touches Everything.” Esteemed judges from Zebra Technologies, Sunrise Technology, and TSCW selected local award winners. Team Sachem Sigmas was selected a Global Nominee in the NASA Space Apps Challenge, placing in the top 9% worldwide among all projects!

In preparation for the hackathon, high school students joined TSCW’s SpaceHack program, where they honed skills in problem-solving, data analysis, and app development. With guidance from experts like NOAA’s Dr. Mark Miesch and software engineer Michael Caprio, students experienced hands-on learning designed to inspire future STEAM leaders.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the best-attended Halloween and Ghost Hunting Tour at Wardenclyffe to date! Attendees had the unique opportunity to step into the mysterious world of Nikola Tesla, exploring his historic grounds and uncovering the unknown with guidance from the Long Island Paranormal Investigators (LIPI).

Together, we navigated the shadows of Tesla’s laboratory with paranormal investigation equipment in hand. This spine-tingling tour was an unforgettable evening that challenged perceptions and ignited imaginations.

A seasoned software engineer and community organizer, Michael brings a wealth of experience from organizing hackathons, producing large-scale events, and hosting notable gatherings like NASA Space Apps’ global mainstage in New York City. At TSCW, he is the driving force behind our SpaceHack STEAM program, and as the founding organizer of Space Apps Brookhaven, he’s inspiring a new generation of innovators. Michael’s commitment to TSCW helps us further our mission to spark curiosity, foster learning, and expand access to STEAM education for all.
