Committed to Conservation

The Gallery is committed to supporting conservators at all stages of their education, and despite the pandemic, this year has been no exception. The Conservation Department’s six fellows and interns, together with Gallery conservators, have recently undertaken conservation projects that include twice-yearly maintenance of works on the Margaret and Angus Wurtele Sculpture Terrace.

In her forthcoming publication Old Age in Greek and Roman Art(2022), Matheson, together with J. J. Pollitt, discusses ancient attitudes toward old age and highlights the ways in which our perceptions of age echo—and depart from—those of our predecessors.
