As we approach the end of 2024, I want to express my gratitude to you for being a part of the Glenstone community. Whether you joined us for our exhibitions, summer program, or simply to enjoy a moment of reflection with nature, these meaningful engagements are the reason we exist.
This past year, we celebrated a significant milestone by taking Ellsworth Kelly at 100 on tour. Organized by Glenstone, the exhibition premiered in Potomac before traveling to the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris over the summer. It is currently on view at M7 in Doha, Qatar, marking the artist’s first presentation in the Gulf region. It is a profound honor to celebrate the legacy of one of contemporary art’s most influential figures by sharing his work across three continents.
To make our collection even more accessible, we inaugurated our Summer Evenings series, offering a fresh way to enjoy the museum. This program introduced Glenstone to new audiences with live music and special programming. As fall began, we partially reopened the Pavilions with exhibitions by Cady Noland, Lorraine O’Grady, and Melvin Edwards, artists who challenge us to think deeply about the world around us and confront the urgent issues of our time.
Looking ahead, we are excited to fully reopen the Pavilions on March 20, 2025 with new exhibitions by artists Jenny Holzer, Alex Da Corte, and others. Returning with the reopening will be the single-artist presentations the Pavilions is known for, including Brice Marden’s five-panel painting Moss Sutra with the Seasons (2010–2015), Moon Landing (1969) by On Kawara, and Robert Gober’s immersive environment Untitled (1992).
The Gallery will continue to host Iconoclasts: Selections from Glenstone’s Collection, an exhibition that highlights watershed moments in art history of the last century with works by more than fifty artists.
To enable us to prepare for the full reopening, Glenstone will be entirely closed from February 24 through March 19. Tickets for March will be available beginning at 10:00am on March 1.
As we continue to pursue our mission of creating spaces where art, reflection, and conversation intersect, I want to thank the many people who made this year so special: artists, institutional partners, Glenstone associates—and you. We look forward to welcoming you again soon.
Wishing you a peaceful and reflective holiday season, |
