Do you remember the SNL skit with the Amazing Alexander, the Broadway hypnotist? Everyone leaving his performance repeats the same phrase,
“I loved it. It was much better than Cats. I’m going to see it again and again.”
Whenever I tell people I work at Guild Hall, they say, “I love Guild Hall.” They say it every time. I often wonder, “What spell has this institution cast on you?” After eight years on the job, I’ve identified some explanations for this group hypnosis.
——————————
- Guild Hall was established almost 100 years ago as a civic institution with the vision of better citizenship through the arts.
- From the beginning, values like volunteerism and public service were integral as we opened our doors during the Great Depression, a time of significant need.
- This rare creative community—ranging from five to famous—quickly filled our galleries and stage. Everyone is welcome to share their art at Guild Hall.
If you’ve read this far, I will reveal a secret: I want to do my first-ever stand-up comedy set at Guild Hall in 2025.
If you donate today, I will do it, and it will be much better than Cats. You can also donate to stop me from doing comedy.
Either way, please give generously to the Annual Fund today.
Thank you for your love of Guild Hall,
Andrea
